Baptism

What Baptism Symbolizes

Baptism has been called “outward demonstration of inward change” because it symbolizes that you have accepted Christ as your Lord and Savior, that your old life has been put to death, and that you have new life in Jesus Christ. Baptism is the first step of obedience for a Christian.

The Method Of Baptism

Baptism is a picture of our identification with Christ through His death, burial and resurrection. The word “baptize” in the New Testament translates to mean “immerse,” “submerge,” or “to place under.” Scripture says that Jesus “came up out of the water” when he was baptized.

At Edgewood, we immerse believers when they are baptized because we believe Scripture shows that Jesus modeled that as the way for us to publicly acknowledge our faith in Him.

Is Baptism Required For Church Membership?

At Edgewood, we require those who have not been baptized by immersion to be baptized. If you would like to follow the Lord in believer’s baptism you may speak to our pastor or one of our deacons or you may respond to an invitation at the end of our worship service.
